Can someone help me with Themas Alias plug-in please...

Postby Raze » Sun Dec 12, 2004 1:18 am

I've been told that Themas Alias plug-in can be used as a word censor, but I'm not sure how to set it up - if someone can help that would be great...

Basically I'd like to change swear words so they display as:

nortyword1 = n********1
norty2 = n****2
badword55 = b*******5

etc

can someone please show me how to do just one?
I should be able to do the rest :-)

Thanks in advance!

(Thema I hope I have posted this is in the right section!)

There isn't a forum for my Alias plugin, but since it goes hand in hand with the DescBot plugin I guess this place is better then any other.

First of all I wouldn't dream of using any plugin for a word censor. It's just a crap idea all around. It's far better to look for an IRC Server that already implements this server-side. they do exist.

I just tried using the Alias plugin as a word censor, and it didn't work. Even if it did, all that it would mean is that nobody could use it to send a bad word. It would not prevent bad words being read sent to it from other clients.

Sorry, but I don't have any plans to write one either.

Thanks for replying Thema.

The thing about other clients is not a problem because all users of my channel come from my forum via Pjirc. If anyone went into the channel (which is set as a secret channel btw) who wasn't a member who who used a non Pjiric client they would just get kicked out.

The reason I would prefer to use your Alias plugin for the word censor is because some of the words that need to be censored wouldn't be covered in say a server side solution unless of course they allowed channel owners to specify them.

Can you just show me how to do one line and I'll experiment? Shouldn't it work - theoretically at least?

Thanks again and sorry for taking up ur time.

Not really, because the alias is meant to alias commands, as a result the plugin begins by only examining the first word in a line. If it matches "/"+alias then we have a match, and it then goes into action.

What is needed is a plugin that scans the whole line, and does not look for the "/".

This topic is a bit old, but...why go through all that?

There really insn't a need to use a plugin to do what you want to do...and it's very quite simple too.

(1 make a gif file, like a smilley with a zipper on it's mouth.

(2 turn on -- if it's not already--, your smilleys.

style:bitmapsmileys=true

(3 write a param for like a custum smilley.

style:smileyx=naughty img/bad.gif
style:smieyx=NAUGHTY img/bad.gif

To make it even more humorous...

soundword1=naughty snd/BLEEP.wav

Quite simple really, but no plugin nor this will be fool proof. Let face it...there are many ways a dirty word can get through, simple by mispelling it, and nothing by an operater can stop it.

I think it would be best altogether to make a rule if you don't want someone saying "naughties". "Say it, and be kick out.
