Smiley Autosize

Postby Tim » Tue Oct 09, 2007 10:56 am

I am reading where there's width fixes, and the option to choose (from March 2006) but I've not found anything that will work. Our smileys in the docked version load all the same size, if they're a real small smiley they have a huge space near them. The other method loads them in 15x15 (I believe it is) size no matter the size of the image.

Is there a way to get even a page to load like the /smiley format but not sized? Meaning, that each image will show as it will show in the chatroom?

Or could I create a page that would work that allows me to click on it and enter the text? The buttons in the form method load on the same page, which could make it rather congested. Just trying to see what the options are. Thank you!

It helps a great deal if you tell me which plugin you're using, and the version. Also a link to your chat page is very handy.

As far as I remember the latest version of the Docked Smileys plugin has a parameter which allows you to set the size of the smiley buttons.

I don't recall what happens if you just leave them alone, I think it defaults to 16X16 px.

This should all be in the readme...

I'm actually using both on a test page. I've tried everything I read, to see which option would work best.

I downloaded the latest version of both versions, and I read the readme for the docked version, it doesn't mention anything about it. It does mention the column, which I'm assuming would be the number of columns?

Yes it would.
I've not looked at those plugins for a long time now, but I did check the readme last night, a long time after posting.

The number of columns sets the number of smileys per line, which then autoresize to fill the column, or so the theory goes...

In light of the projected extra support for Java Web Start I will be revisiting the Smileys Plugins so if there's any simple improvements I can make at that time I will. Please let me know what you would like to see.

I have tried to make the plugin as easy to use as possible so that anybody could use it. I really want to maintain that aspect if I can.

The best way I could suggest, would be a seperate window or popup window. This way if many images are used, it doesn't clutter up the same window, and make it slow loading etc. An example would be the one Web City Radio uses. While it isn't the java applet, that type of smiley link is nice, you can open it when you need it, and not have to deal with them when you don't. I've listed their link below, so you can see what I mean if you want to check it out.

Using the popup window just makes the chat page more clean looking, faster loading. Just a suggestion! I love your add ons! Thank you for your work.

But that's the way that the popup smiley plugin works...

You can use a javascript button or the /smileys command to pop it up there's an example provided.

I can add parameters if you really want to resize the smiley buttons, but again I was aiming for total simplicity.

Yeah I forgot about that one, since it has 15x15 it didn't work well for us. The ability to resize the images displayed would be perfect! Possibly display the image on the left, and the text to trigger it on the right, scrolling through the list? Sorry about that! I meant to add that, I've been sick my head isn't on my shoulders tonight LOL Thanks again.

Well I've managed a clumsy method of doing it without parameters.
Just issue the command "/smileys n" where n = the size you want.
It needs a bit more work till I can upload it though.

I don't know about having the text in the smiley panel though. That seems a bit redundant really.

I suppose I could try for some popup text like the ASL popup...
